A massive music lineup has been announced for the 11th year of Rocklahoma, presented by Bud Light, May 26, 27 & 28, 2017 at "Catch the Fever" Festival Grounds in Pryor, Oklahoma, just outside Tulsa. The three-day camping festival features music on three stages, as well as a campground stage to keep the music going all night long. “Every year we try to find that delicate balance of talent at Rocklahoma, and the lineup we’ve put together for 2017 will not disappoint,” commented Joe Litvag, executive producer of Rocklahoma. “Def Leppard has been on the wish list of our most loyal fans since the festival was created back in 2007, and to couple them, one of the most influential British rock bands of the last 30+ years, with Soundgarden, one of the most respected American rock bands of our generation, is really special for us. Add to the mix some of the hottest developing talent like Pierce The Veil, The Pretty Reckless, Nothing More, and Rival Sons, and I think we’ve accomplished the goal of achieving one of the most diverse festival lineups of the year anywhere. It’s going to be a really memorable weekend!”

Remembering Leon Russell with Mel Myers Podcast

If you missed the original broadcast, you can listen again, via our Podcast Archive.

Known to fans as The Master of Space & Time, Leon Russell was an Oklahoma native who grew up in Tulsa. Although he didn't rise to worldwide fame until Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour of 1970, Leon had been a behind-the-scenes studio musician for most of the decade before, playing on major hits by The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Frank Sinatra and many others.

Host of Remembering Leon Russell, Mel Myers explains, “What I hope to do during our 2-hour special is show the many different facets of this incredible musical creator who Tulsa called, 'our own'. I've been gathering little-known information from close friends of Leon, along with their fond memories of his unique sense of humor. We'll share some of that and enjoy much of the music he left us, recorded by both Leon himself and others.

“Leon Russell was a musician, performer, songwriter, record company owner and, in many ways, a visionary who recognized future needs and trends. Not only did he establish a successful career of his own, but Leon also encouraged others to pursue their talents, bringing us music stars who may have never had careers without him.”

Myers added, “Tulsa owes Leon Russell a debt of gratitude for putting us on the rock 'n' roll map, not to mention the inspiration that he's provided for other Tulsa musicians from J.J. Cale to Hanson. I'm happy that I could team up with 103.3 The Eagle to shine the spotlight on brother Leon.”
